Embrace the Challenge

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.'”

Matthew 16:24 (NIV)

Reflection

The modern day is obsessed with convenience and quick access. We are constantly encouraged to take the easy route even though we know the consequences of fast food and junk media like Facebook. However, a life hack I've learned is to always seek out the path less traveled. The Lord has guided me and at times even pushed me to 'do the hard things', whether it's a 5 am workout or having honest conversations with loved ones. This reminds me of Jesus’ call to His disciples in Matthew 16:24, where He speaks of denying oneself and taking up the cross. True discipleship requires sacrifice and perseverance, all valuable things do. God’s word assures us that through sacrifice, we find purpose and fulfillment. By embracing the difficult tasks, we align ourselves with God's greater plans, discovering strength and resilience in Him. So sleep in the rain, fast for 72 hours, train your body, deny yourself simple comforts, and build your resilience. God wants people who won't take the easy way out because they know the long road is what leads to the path of righteousness.

Insight

In biblical times, taking up one's cross was a symbol of ultimate sacrifice and commitment. Jesus' call to His disciples was radical, encouraging them to live beyond comfort and security. Similarly, the news today reminds us that significant achievements and deep relationships are often forged in the fires of challenge and sacrifice. This timeless truth underscores the importance of commitment and dedication in our spiritual journey.

Key Takeaway

True growth and fulfillment often lie on the other side of challenge and sacrifice, reflecting God's eternal truth of discipleship.
