Father to the Fatherless
“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.”
Psalms 68:5 (NIV)
Reflection
I recently shared my journey growing up without a father, likening it to navigating life on 'hard-core mode' because theres no guide to show you the rules. As I've grown, I started to realize God stepped in, not just as a replacement, but as the perfect fulfillment of a father. Psalms 68:5 describes God as a father to the fatherless. In this scripture, I found the wisdom and peace necessary to avoid the pitfalls that often claim young men who grow up in a similar situation. Fatherless boys experience higher rates of incarceration, violence, crime, sexual abuse, and suicide than thier counterparts. My testimony is a reminder that God's guidance can lead young men away from those obstacles even when we feel unworthy or left behind. God's word assures us that His presence is enough to transform our lives beyond the statistics and societal expectations of the fatherless. This realization has guided my actions as a father now, reminding me that I've been tasked with something special. God blessed me with the responsibility of raising a child made whole by what I had lost and made righteous by what God wills - that my son would be an embodiment of love, peace, and compassion in the world.
