Living the Gospel Through Actions

“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor, their righteousness endures forever; their horn will be lifted high in honor.”

Psalms 112:9 (NIV)

Reflection

Over a decade ago, I had a first sergeant in the army, celebrated for his confidence and strength, who attributes his excellence to his love for God. He exemplified the true essence of selfless service and humility by letting his actions speak louder than words. He was actually a man of very little words, but could change the tone of the room with just a gaze. Just as Christ urged us to preach the good news through our deeds, this sergeant's life inspired me to ask why he does good. Psalms 112:9 reminds us of the honor that comes from living righteously. When we scatter our gifts and act with integrity, like this sergeant, we become living testimonies of God's love. God calls us to let our lives be a sermon, reaching hearts that words alone cannot touch.

Insight

In biblical times, leaders were often judged by their actions and their ability to provide for and protect their people. Similarly, this first sergeant's leadership is grounded in his faith and integrity. The Bible consistently highlights the importance of action in demonstrating faith, from the prophets to the apostles. In the early church, believers were known by their love and service, which reflected the teachings of Jesus and drew many to the faith.

Key Takeaway

Our actions can be the most powerful sermon, reflecting God's love and drawing others to Him.
