Approved Beyond Achievement
“What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.”
Philippians 3:8 (NIV)
Reflection
Recently I learned that millions of people are leaving the workforce and the epidemic of loneliness is getting worse. I think this trend reflects a deeper struggle where many of us place their identity in their job title and paycheck. Yet, in Matthew 3:17, God called Jesus 'beloved' before He began His ministry, emphasizing that our worth is not in what we do but in who we are in God's eyes. Philippians 3:8 reminds us to value knowing Christ above all worldly achievements. This speaks directly to those feeling lost in their careers, as it reassures that our true identity and value come from our relationship with Christ, not our job titles or salaries.
Insight
In Biblical times, identity often revolved around one's occupation or family lineage. Yet, Jesus' ministry consistently emphasized identity in the Kingdom of God over societal roles. Paul's letters, particularly to the Philippians, highlight the worth found in Christ rather than worldly status. This historical perspective encourages us to see our value through the lens of faith, unshaken by worldly standards.
Key Takeaway
Your worth is eternal and secure in Christ, beyond any job title or paycheck.
