Counting the Days with Wisdom

“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

Reflection

Frequently, I find myself living under the pressures and timelines of my business. With AI and other external variables to consider, I sometimes obsess over whether I will have enough money to retire, pay for my sons education, or sustain the family during a financial downturn. I find myself constantly thinking of my 10-15 year plan, wondering if its all in vain and if my current efforts should be focused on diversifying my income. Then this morning during prayer, I was lead by Psalm 90:12. It called me to examine those plans with clarity and ask - are my plans driven by fear, a calling, or merely unexamined arithmetic? If the money disappeared tomorrow, would I still pursue some of these ventures? Proverbs 16:3 also instructed me to commit my plans to God, ensuring they are not just my own desires but aligned with His wisdom. In doing so, God promises to establish those plans, giving them purpose and direction. These passages made a light bulb go off in my head. If I were to start a new venture, it would need to examine the cost, not the return when led by God's purpose. This morning, let's take this moment to reflect on our schedules and aspirations, trusting that God's insight will lead us to a deeper understanding of the days He has given us.

Insight

The biblical context of Proverbs 16:3 emphasizes the importance of seeking God’s guidance in our plans. In ancient times, committing one's work to the Lord meant seeking His will through prayer and community discernment. This wisdom remains relevant as we navigate our modern lives. By inviting God into our planning, we acknowledge His sovereignty and wisdom, allowing Him to guide our steps and bring our efforts to fruition.

Key Takeaway

True wisdom is found not in the quantity of our days but in aligning each day with God's eternal purpose.
