The Cornerstone of Our Faith

“And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.”

1 Corinthians 15:17 (NIV)

Reflection

This morning I reflected on the conversation sparked by Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 15, we are reminded of the cornerstone of our faith: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Paul makes the claim that if Christ has not been raised, our faith is in vain. This belief has anchored Christianity in the idea of resurrection, as it is the very foundation upon which all other aspects of the faith stand. Yet, it's also the easiest part of the story to doubt, especially regarding the resurrection of the dead. Paul's message is a powerful reminder that with God, the impossible becomes possible. Just as God raised Christ, He promises life beyond this world to those who believe. Even today I struggle with the idea of life after death and although I have my doubts, I know it's not something God takes personally. We have to remember that faith is a journey and honesty with ourselves about our doubts produces stronger conviction when God chooses to reveal his glory.

Insight

Paul's letter to the Corinthians was written to address confusion and skepticism concerning the resurrection. During this time, the concept of bodily resurrection was foreign and met with doubt, both among Jews and Greeks. Paul's assertion that without the resurrection, faith is meaningless, underscores the centrality of Christ's victory over death in Christian doctrine. This passage challenges believers to embrace the transformative power of the resurrection as the ultimate proof of God's authority and love.

Key Takeaway

The resurrection of Christ is not just a past event but the living foundation of our faith and hope.
