Embracing the Gift of Free Will
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”
Psalm 32:8 (NIV)
Reflection
This morning I'm reminded of my years as an atheist when I learned that sometimes a little distance from God helps us discover who we truly are without Him. This idea may be provocative, but it suggests that by relying solely on God every moment, we might overlook the gift of free will He has graciously bestowed upon us. What I learned from disbelief is that God wants us to grow in self-awareness and utilize the gifts He's provided. Psalm 32:8 assures us of God's guidance and loving counsel as we navigate life's paths. Even in moments of distance, His loving eye remains on us, encouraging us to explore our unique purpose. This lesson helped me to reflect on how I balance reliance on God while exercising his greatest blessing - choice.
Insight
Throughout the Bible, individuals like Moses and David experienced moments of separation from God, which led to profound personal growth and deeper faith. Their journeys show us that God uses these times to shape our character and strengthen our reliance on His guidance. This historical context reminds us that God’s plan often includes seasons of independence, where we learn to apply His teachings in practical ways.
Key Takeaway
God’s gift of free will invites us to explore and grow, knowing His loving guidance is always present.
