No Place for Hate

“And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

Colossians 3:14 (NIV)

Reflection

Yesterday the white seperatists group Patriot Front, marched in Washington, D.C., for the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding. It is a poignant reminder of the hate and division that still exists among us. The lack of response from the FBI or secret service, on such a significant day in our history speaks volumes. It raises questions about unity and love in our society and what groups the government will tolerate. Had this been Antifa or the Muslim Alliance, would the government have sat idly by? The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Colossians, urges us to put on love, which binds us all together in perfect unity. As Christians, we are called to rise above division and to seek the peace and unity that come from Christ. In a world where hate groups can spew their nonsense without consequence, let us unite against them by showing them the love that Christ showed us.

Insight

Historically, the U.S. has tolerated white supremcist groups who have hid behind their first ammendment rights. This context is crucial today as we witness groups like the Patriot Front, whose actions can sow discord. Just as the early Christians were called to rebuke sin, so are we when it comes to speaking out against racism and xenophobia. Hate has no place in America and should find no safety in the church.

Key Takeaway

In a world divided, let us be united in Christ's love, the true bond of peace and unity.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we lift up our nation on this significant anniversary. We pray for healing and unity amid division. Guide the hearts of those involved, including the Patriot Front, to seek peace and reconcilation. May Your love prevail in our communities and these groups who have allowed sin to control their hearts. In Jesus' name, Amen.
