Righteous Freedom

“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.”

1 Peter 2:16 (ASV)

Reflection

For many millineals we grew up in an age where we began to see the unraveling of traditional institutions. The digital age exposed many things that were covered up or hidden under the guise of freedom and values. However, to live as a truly free people we must allow the truth to be uncovered so that it is then unshakeable. Peter tells us to live in the truth of Jesus so that we may be authentic in approach with God, each other, and the world at large. To avoid the corruption of our souls, we are called to be righteous servants so that we are set free from the destructive nature of sin.

Insight

In the Roman Empire, slavery was prevalent, and many early Christians were slaves. Peter's exhortation for them to see themselves as "bondservants of God" would have been deeply meaningful, as it affirmed their identity and worth in Christ despite their earthly circumstances.

Key Takeaway

'Trust in the Lord with all your heart' isn't just poetic advice—it's a practical directive for everyday peace and guidance.

Question to Sit With

How can you demonstrate trust in God’s plan today amid personal challenges or societal shifts? Are there areas in your life where you've relied more heavily on human understanding rather than seeking divine direction?

Today's Challenge

Today, identify one decision or situation where you've felt uncertain or anxious. Consciously decide to commit this matter entirely into God's hands through prayer, seeking His wisdom over your own insights.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your eternal wisdom and guidance. In a world filled with rapid changes and uncertainties, help us to trust wholly in You and not lean on our limited understanding. Grant us peace as we navigate both technological advances and natural upheavals, remembering always to seek Your direction. We pray for those especially impacted by recent events, asking for Your comfort and guidance in their lives.
