His Strength

“Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:28-31 (ASV)

Reflection

Isaiah's words offer a profound reminder. Despite our modern advances and technologies, human efforts can falter and even the strongest among us may feel worn down. Isaiah reminds us that it is in our most fatigued moments that God supplies unyielding strength. Reflect on a time when you felt your reserves depleting, yet found an unexpected surge of energy—perhaps that was divine reinforcement in action. This passage bridges our ancient faith with today's challenges by affirming that our endurance comes from relying on God's eternal capacity, not just our finite resources.

Insight

Isaiah addressed a people in exile facing immense hardships, offering them hope and assurance through recognition of God’s sovereign power. The original audience battled national despair similar to personal setbacks we encounter today. These verses affirm a timeless principle: Divine strength transcends human weakness across ages. Despite cultural shifts or technological advancements, this truth about God's character remains steadfast and continually relevant.

Key Takeaway

'They who wait upon the Lord will find their strength renewed'—a promise as timeless as it is pertinent.
